Overview
Maze was founded by Jonathan Widawski and Thomas Mary to give entire product teams—not only specialist researchers—easy access to user data during the design phase. The platform integrates with design tools like Adobe XD and Sketch and enables shareable prototype tests, surveys, and reports. Recent product additions include Reach, for building participant databases and emailing studies, and Clips, which captures video and screen recordings of test sessions. Maze says over 60,000 brands use the platform, including Hertz, Sony, Fidelity Investments, BNY Mellon and Nubank, and it grew 6x during the pandemic. The company declined to disclose revenue figures. Maze plans to invest in new product solutions, workflow integrations, more advanced features, and team growth to expand into additional use cases along the product development process. Maze is a SaaS user-testing platform that enables product designers and managers to run tests at scale using prototypes from Figma, InVision, Adobe XD, Marvel, or Sketch. Tests are run in the browser and capture quantitative metrics (success rates, drop-off points) plus qualitative answers to questions and polls. Maze also supports concept testing without a design and generates detailed reports to inform roadmaps and team collaboration. The product aims to reduce reliance on engineering for testing and to empower design-led decision making. Over the past 12 months Maze's monthly recurring revenue grew 600%, yielding $1.5 million in ARR; 40,000 companies use Maze and one million testers have completed at least one test. Customers include GE, Samsung, Vodafone, Braze and FairMoney. Maze builds a browser-based usability testing platform that converts InVision, Marvel, Sketch and Figma prototypes into tests that run on desktop and mobile. Designers can share a link with users to collect actionable insights and receive detailed reports showing success rates, drop-off points, polling results and other metrics. The company offers monthly SaaS plans and an optional testers panel for customers that want an end-to-end testing solution. Maze recently added Figma support to stay relevant and to address teams using Figma as their primary design tool. The startup aims to empower designers to run user tests at scale and to become a standard testing suite before shipping updates. Its product has attracted roughly 20,000 users at companies including IBM, Greenpeace, Accenture and BMW. Maze converts InVision and Marvel designs into web-based UX tests that record user paths from desktop or mobile browsers without installs. It is not a video recording or new prototyping tool; instead it overlays testing onto existing InVision/Marvel workflows. Test participants receive task instructions via a shared link and Maze auto-progresses them through multiple tasks. Developers and designers get a dashboard showing success rates, completion time, tap heatmaps and individual session views, and can run simple A/B tests by sending different designs to different groups. Thousands of designers have tried the service, including people at Amazon, Airbnb, Uber and Shopify. Maze operates as a SaaS with a limited free plan and multiple paid subscriptions and has been described in hands-on testing as a polished experience.
