Overview
Mbryonics develops wireless optical transport and coherent photonic-optical transceiver technologies used in satellite communications, datacoms and 5G. Its core product roadmap includes the StarCom optical terminal, slated to launch in 2025 to support a client’s space-based quantum internet development. The company was selected by DARPA earlier this year to develop components of an optical terminal for the Space-BACN programme and says the US government has chosen StarCom to link government satellites with commercial networks including Starlink and Kuiper. Mbryonics will use the new funding to create a manufacturing, assembly and testing facility for optics and photonics in the west of Ireland over the next five years. It also plans to advance freeform optics and photonic integrated circuit manufacturing techniques to improve process efficiency, supply-chain management and sustainability. The business has received prior public support, including selection for Ireland’s Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund in 2019 and a €4.1m DTIF award in 2023, alongside ongoing support from Enterprise Ireland and the European Space Agency.
