Medal launched Highlight, a capture-based interface and runtime for AI assistants that runs on Windows and macOS and lets users publish web apps as native assistants in under a minute. The platform continuously captures screen context locally (without storing it) and lets users choose from models such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude, with options to run small models entirely on-device. Highlight exposes open APIs for tasks like meeting transcription and action-item identification and will add additional custom apps soon. The product is built on Medal’s screen-capture and process-detection layer, which is used by over 4 million gamers per month and sits alongside MedalTV’s more than 1 million daily active users. Highlight emphasizes user privacy via opt-in capture, developer control over data routing, and a platform-agnostic approach to encourage competition among AI model providers. With the new funding, the company plans to accelerate development and expand its user base, aiming to become the fastest-growing desktop AI assistant within a year.
