Overview

Medal builds enterprise software that enables HIPAA-compliant extraction, cataloguing, and sharing of clinical data across disparate electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Using natural language processing, the platform converts unstructured reports and summaries into standardized, searchable data. Health organizations can create holistic, continuously updated patient profiles that feed decision-support tools and improve care outcomes. Founded in 2015 by CEO Lonnie Kurlander and CTO Andy McMurry, the company targets providers and other healthcare stakeholders that struggle with fragmented records. The newly raised seed capital will be directed toward expanding the engineering team and accelerating product deployment. Although no revenue or user numbers were disclosed, the $3.78 million infusion gives the company its first institutional capital and runway to execute its go-to-market plans.
