- Altos Radar
Participated · Seed · Aug 2023
Altos Radar builds 4D millimeter-wave radar sensors that generate high-resolution, point-cloud style data for automotive perception. The company claims a 350-meter sensing range, 0.2 m/s instantaneous speed resolution, and the ability to distinguish objects 0.31 meter apart. Altos emphasizes ASIC-based compute optimization, asserting roughly 80x performance over an ASIC reference radar design to lower cost and power versus FPGA approaches. Its founders say the sensors are "ready to ship" and the startup is in early discussions with dozens of customers including AV divisions of OEMs, self-driving companies, universities, and port facilities in the U.S. and China. The founding team includes Li Niu (formerly worked on autonomous system hardware at Apple and led radar/camera at Pony.ai) and Michael Wu (former Pony.ai and Mozilla mobile platform engineer), positioning the company at the intersection of hardware and software R&D. Financially, Altos recently closed a $3.5M first round from ZhenFund, Monad Ventures, and investor Yifan Li.
