Medkart is an Ahmedabad-based retailer of affordable, WHO GMP-certified generic medicines operating a network of 75 stores across Gujarat and Rajasthan. Founded in 2014, the company remained bootstrapped until this fundraise. It also operates an online presence via a mobile application and serves about 6 lakh customers with chronic illnesses in addition to other customers. Medkart plans aggressive expansion, targeting entry into 200 smaller towns across Gujarat and Rajasthan before moving into other markets. Management intends to technologically strengthen the online platform and tightly integrate online and retail channels to deliver an omni-channel experience. The company says the funding will be used to build the infrastructure necessary to support expansion and omni-channel operations.
