Medomain develops and provides PidPort, a digital pathology support solution that leverages deep learning and the company’s proprietary image-processing techniques to enable fast, high-accuracy pathology diagnoses. The product was developed in collaboration with Kyushu University’s medical faculty and Kyushu University Hospital, using supercomputing resources for accelerated AI training. An alpha version shipped in winter 2018 and a formal release followed in February 2020; the company has conducted joint research with medical institutions nationwide. Medomain was founded in January 2018 as the first startup from Kyushu University’s entrepreneurship program. In the current financing it received ¥300 million from PACS provider PSP and entered a capital-and-business alliance; prior to this it raised ¥1.1 billion in August 2020, bringing cumulative funding to about ¥1.5 billion. Medomain and PSP plan to integrate Medomain’s pathology diagnosis technologies into PSP’s infrastructure and services and to jointly develop new systems such as a pathology cloud PACS.
