Overview

Mejuri is a four-year-old direct-to-consumer jewelry company based in Toronto and Buenos Aires that designs, manufactures and sells affordable jewelry primarily online with two offline showrooms. The company targets women who purchase jewelry for themselves, reporting that 75% of customers buy for themselves and that 30% of monthly transactions come from returning shoppers. Mejuri operates a small weekly "drop" model and has released 1,500 designs, attracting more than 422,000 Instagram followers, 70,000 customers on a waitlist, and 20 million website visitors. Its team of 120 employees includes a 25-person in-house crew focused on trend-driven product development and rapid customer feedback loops. Revenues have quadrupled year-over-year for the fourth consecutive year and the company says it is on track to maintain that traction in 2019. Mejuri plans to use new capital to expand offline, push beyond its biggest markets in Canada and the United States (it ships to 33 countries), and invest in branding and customer experience. Mejuri is an ecommerce company selling fine jewelry direct to consumers and refreshes its collection every Monday while engaging customers via social media, email, and SMS. Founded in 2015 in Toronto by Noura Sakkijha and Maj Masad, the brand targets millennial women and leverages micro-influencers. Repeat customers account for over 35 percent of monthly transactions, and the company sold 150,000 pieces of jewelry in the past year. The company raised $5 million in a round led by Felix Capital and plans to use the funding to open physical stores. Mejuri already has a space in Toronto and is eyeing New York City for its next store. CEO Noura Sakkijha emphasized the company’s efficiency and careful attention to spend as a strength.
