Mellon Medical develops the Switch, a single‑use precision‑suturing instrument designed to speed suturing of tubular and layered structures. The company says the Switch enables surgeons to suture about twice as fast as conventional methods, reducing clamp time and lowering complication risk. Mellon highlights potential benefits including better patient outcomes and reduced costs for procedures such as vascular surgery. The initial clinical focus is on vascular indications including carotid artery surgery, kidney transplant and peripheral bypass surgery. Mellon plans to introduce an 8 cm Switch model and believes the technology could also apply to general surgery, microsurgery, urology, gynecology, coronary artery bypass and neurosurgery. Dr. Mark Vrancken Peeters, a vascular surgeon, is Mellon’s founder and chief medical officer.
