Overview
MEMSYS is a Delft-based spin-off from TU Delft founded in 2022 by Thijs Blad and Gerrit‑Jan Mollink. The company developed an energy harvester that extracts energy from vehicle vibrations to power wireless sensors mounted on each wagon, eliminating batteries and external power. Its core product enables continuous monitoring of wagons and rail infrastructure to detect flaws such as flat patches on wheels that are hard to find during visual checks. MEMSYS aims to create technology and apps for self-powered IoT devices and plans to make its product suitable for market introduction in the rail sector. The startup secured €350K from the UNIIQ Fund to support prototype development and initial pilot launches. UNIIQ will help the company create a prototype and launch the initial pilots to accelerate market readiness.
