Mercadoni frames its mission as returning time to consumers who otherwise spend hours a week buying groceries in congested, often unsafe urban environments. The service aggregates major retail chains on its web, iOS, and Android apps and uses a network of delivery "pilots" to fulfill orders. Founded in early 2015 by Antonio Nunes and Pedro Freire, Mercadoni had more than 50 partner stores and had created 250 jobs with plans to add another 500 in the following three months. In its first months of operation the company delivered over 500,000 products and was running at a sales run rate of $4 million. The company aims to consolidate its leadership in Mexico and Colombia, expand to new cities, and continue improving the customer experience.
