Overview
MicroAlign is a photonics technology company focused on manufacturing fiber arrays that use patented micro-actuation to position individual fibers with nanometer-level accuracy, delivering sub-0.5 dB optical losses required for photonic quantum computing. Its active-alignment process is designed for high-volume, automated production, overcoming the limitations of traditional datacom and telecom fiber-array solutions. With demand for low-loss optical paths rising as quantum computers move from R&D to early commercial deployment, the company is scaling and automating its manufacturing line. MicroAlign plans to introduce a further-miniaturized platform in 2026 featuring 127 µm channel pitches to support denser photonic integrations. By 2029 it aims to supply a significant share of the global photonic quantum-computing market while expanding into other advanced photonics applications such as MEMS switches and optical amplifiers. Existing backers include PhotonDelta, DeepTechXL, Innovation Industries, Capital 819, and TU Eindhoven, with additional support from financing partners NWO, BSF, and Rabobank. The recent EIC Accelerator award provides both non-dilutive grant money and an equity component, giving the company fresh resources for industrial scale-up.
