Overview

Mintos operates an online investment platform that evolved from peer-to-peer lending into a multi-asset platform mixing traditional and alternative assets. It serves customers in Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the Netherlands and plans to expand its platform across the entire EU. The company reports more than 500,000 users and over €600 million in assets under administration. In 2023 Mintos generated €11.3 million in revenue and a net profit of €727,000. CEO and co-founder Martins Sulte said the crowdfunding round’s success reflected strong investor confidence in the firm’s potential. Mintos previously raised €6.5 million from 6,100 investors in a 2020 crowdfunded round. Mintos operates a marketplace that aggregates debt securities from across Europe and facilitates investing in loans. Since launching in 2015, the company says it has built the European loan-investing market to €6.6 billion and holds about 45% of that market. The platform is headquartered in Latvia and reports participation from investors in more than 90 countries. Mintos previously raised around €7 million from angel investors. The company expects to secure Investment Firm and EMI licenses by early 2021 and plans to raise venture funding at some point in 2021. Management framed the recent crowdfunding as the start of a new chapter with new shareholders as they continue to execute their roadmap. Mintos operates a global loans marketplace that lets investors buy loans originated by multiple loan originators. The company plans to launch a Mintos banking account and debit card and is applying for a European e-money license to improve access to funds and simplify investing. The banking account will provide an IBAN for salary and payments, and the debit card will allow instant access to money on the Mintos account for payments and ATM withdrawals. Mintos reports 87,000 investors across 71 countries, has facilitated more than €1 billion in investments since launching in 2015, and says investors have earned €26.7 million in interest with an average net return near 12%. The company will use the new funding for geographic expansion into Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, customer acquisition, and to significantly expand its 60-person team. Mintos has been profitable since January 2017. Mintos operates a P2P loans marketplace that lets investors invest in or buy loans offered by third-party loan originators. Launched in January last year, the platform centralizes access so originators need not build their own investment platforms. CEO and co-founder Martins Sulte says the marketplace has seen strong traction, with €13 million of funded loans traded via the platform. Investors on Mintos come from 40 countries and can access loan types including business, car, invoice finance, mortgage, and personal loans. Loans are currently originated in Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, and Lithuania, with plans to add the Czech Republic and Poland and other countries in the pipeline.
