Overview

MI:RNA focuses on creating molecular diagnostics that combine microRNA profiling with advanced modelling to identify disease signatures in animal blood samples. Its lead program is a blood-based test designed to detect and stage canine osteoarthritis (OA) far earlier than current imaging or clinical observation methods. The test analyses specific microRNA biomarkers and runs the data through AI models to deliver an objective diagnosis, potentially reducing invasive procedures and subjectivity in veterinary practice. Current R&D work will study samples from dogs split evenly between OA cases and healthy controls, leveraging data from the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. Future plans include validating the tool’s predictive capabilities, monitoring treatment effectiveness, and expanding to larger studies. By enabling earlier intervention, MI:RNA aims to improve outcomes for the estimated 10 million UK dogs affected by OA and the 20 % of dogs worldwide that develop the disease. The company positions its solution as a more accurate, accessible, and cost-effective diagnostic option for veterinarians.
