Overview
Moka is a six-year-old Chinese HR tech startup that aims to automate all stages of talent management through software. Its platform can automatically collect post-interview feedback and store it in a database, and it alerts employers when staff change their resumes. The company said it has accumulated over 1,500 paid clients, including Tencent, Xiaomi, McDonald’s and Arm China, and has an annual retention rate of over 110%. Moka reported average paying customers spend roughly 100,000–200,000 yuan per year on its software. Its CEO is Li Guoxing, a Stanford graduate, and the company says it has reached unicorn status while declining to disclose its valuation. Investors have shown rising interest as enterprise productivity tools gain attention amid tighter regulation of consumer internet services in China. Moka builds HR software to help HR managers post job openings, discover candidates, manage staff and receive alerts when employees update their resumes. The company serves enterprise clients including Xiaomi, Didi, Arm China, Shopee, Alibaba, Burger King and McDonald’s, and as of June had accumulated over 700 paid clients. Its team of about 300 employees operates across five major Chinese cities. Proceeds from the recent funding are earmarked for recruitment, product innovation and business expansion. Moka reports acquiring users at two-thirds of the industry-average cost and a subscription renewal rate hovering above 100%. Co-founders Li Guoxing and Zhao Oulun lead the five-year-old startup; Li was appointed CEO as the new round closed. Moka offers a suite of recruitment and talent-management software that handles the full hiring cycle for mid-to-large employers. Its tools let recruiters post jobs across multiple platforms with one click, use AI-enabled screening to filter candidates, and automate interview scheduling and reminders. The platform also maintains a talent database that tracks resume updates and alerts recruiters to suitable candidates. By the end of 2018 Moka reported more than 500 enterprise customers, including Xiaomi, McDonald’s, Burger King’s local business and live-streaming service YY. The company plans to use new capital to hire staff, build new products and expand the scope of its business. Moka was founded in 2015 by Zhao Oulun (Orion) and Li Guoxing, both of whom returned to China after studying and working abroad.
