Overview
Moontoast provides brands and agencies with a Social Rich Media Ad platform to create and distribute mobile-responsive rich media ads across major social channels including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Its interactive ad units deliver branded video, audio, and data capture across multiple devices and OS types and provide actionable analytics. Customers span automotive, media, entertainment, consumer packaged-goods, retail, and consumer technology sectors and include Toyota, P&G, Nike, Lexus, Samsung, Microsoft, Hyundai, AMD and Nissan. Led by CEO Blair Heavey, the company has offices in Boston, New York City, San Francisco and Nashville. Moontoast raised an additional $4.5M in its 2013 Series B and intends to use the funds to expand the platform’s multi-channel analytics and optimization features. The recent investment was made by the Martin Companies. Moontoast creates custom, interactive ads for social media — including social stores, surveys, sweepstakes, and MP3-for-email units — that often incorporate rich media. The company works with about 50 clients, including Universal, Lexus, Nike, Hyundai, Lady Antebellum, Time, and Simon & Schuster. Co-founder and CTO Marcus Whitney says the creative is conversational and more marketing-focused than traditional advertising. Moontoast recently updated its platform with a new analytics service that incorporates data from the Facebook Ads API and plans to continue improving analytics throughout the year. The company was founded in Nashville and now has roughly half its team in Boston. Management says the new funding should allow the startup to reach profitability. Moontoast operates a social commerce platform that offers a Social Activation Engine and distributed social commerce stores for brands, affinity retailers, musicians, athletes/celebrities and authors. Its platform distributes social campaign modules for promotions, events, downloads and commerce and includes patent-pending social analytics and patent-pending game commerce to add gamification. The company says its analytics deliver social insights to drive more relevant interactions and enable transactions at the point of impression. Moontoast launched its social commerce platform in 2010 and reported early campaign results including processing $10,000 in one hour from a single Facebook post and conversion-from-impression rates over 18% in another campaign. The company is based in Boston and Nashville. Following a $6.0M funding round, Moontoast intends to grow and capitalize on its campaign performance while further developing its social commerce offerings.
