Overview

Founded in 2016 as a spin-out from The City University of New York’s Feinstein Lab for Neurogenetics at Hunter College, MouSensor is engineering a living nose-on-a-chip that can identify and digitize every odor, from perfume ingredients to disease-related biomarkers such as those associated with Parkinson’s. The platform combines genetically engineered olfactory receptors with silicon chip technology to create highly sensitive and specific smell sensors. To advance this work, the company has formed an R&D collaboration with nano-electronics leader imec, a project that also secured a $1.2 million grant from Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship and led to the creation of a Belgian subsidiary. MouSensor has additionally benefited from a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Science Foundation. Membership in Alexandria LaunchLabs provides the firm with laboratory space, operational support, and access to Alexandria Venture Investments’ seed capital platform. The company’s current efforts focus on scaling its chip integration and expanding applications in fragrance development and disease diagnostics.
