Nanolive develops label-free live-cell digital imaging and analysis solutions that combine sub-cellular resolution with AI-assisted digital assays. Its platform enables nondestructive 3D screening of thousands of living cells and quantitative study of complex cell-drug perturbation dynamics and cell–cell interactions. Nanolive recently launched the LIVE Cell Death Assay (LCDA), a push-button, automated, label-free cytotoxicity analysis tool trained to discriminate living cells, apoptosis, and necrosis and deliver 13 viability and death-related metrics. Financially, Nanolive closed its Series C round at $22.2 million after receiving an additional $2.2 million. Following the round the company appointed Victoria Wang and Deborah Birx to its board of directors. Nanolive develops label-free microscope devices and state-of-the-art digital analytical solutions for live-cell imaging and analysis. Its instruments can screen thousands of living cells in 3D without damaging them and combine sub-cellular resolution with AI-assisted digital assays. The company positions its quantitative analytical suite as a tool to study complex cell–drug perturbation dynamics and cell–cell interactions, supporting work in drug discovery and cell therapy. Nanolive says this approach will revolutionize the cell-based assay phase of drug discovery and provide novel biological insights into mechanisms of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Today Nanolive announced the first closing of its Series C investment round, raising $20 million in a Series C1 financing. The company plans to use the fundraising to drive significant growth of its Digital Assay solutions and accelerate adoption by pharmaceutical, biotech companies and research institutes. Nanolive develops a laser-based holographic tomography system and algorithms that enable non‑invasive 3D exploration of the interior of living cells. Its core product, the 3D Cell Explorer, was published in Nature Photonics (January 2013) and is available for pre-order. The company targets education, research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, diagnostics and cosmetics. Nanolive’s stated mission is to democratize advanced medical imaging, support scientific research and assist development of new medical treatments. The first financing will be used to secure a product pre‑series and bring an affordable device to customers. The company was incorporated at the EPFL Innovation Park in November 2013 by Dr. Yann Cotte (CEO) and Dr. Fatih Toy.
