Nascent Materials

Newark, NJ, United States

Overview

Nascent Materials is building a manufacturing-focused process to produce cathode materials (initially LFP and LMFP) with more consistent particle size and shape. The company’s process reportedly uses less energy and can improve cathode energy density by up to 12% while cutting production costs by about 30%. That consistency helps pack material more tightly and can tolerate lower-purity raw inputs, opening up more domestic supply options. Founder Chaitanya Sharma draws on experience at Tesla’s Gigafactory and as head of iM3NY, where inconsistent material quality contributed to iM3NY’s Chapter 11 filing in January. Nascent positions its technology as a supply-chain play to reduce reliance on China for cathode material. The company says it plans to expand beyond LFP and LMFP to other chemistries, including NMC and lithium-manganese-rich (LMR).
