Overview
Neuronova develops a neuromorphic processor that implements neurons and synapses as physical structures on silicon, enabling on‑chip AI with dramatically lower energy use. The company says its chip can execute AI tasks using up to 1,000× less energy and fits in a 3 mm × 3 mm package. Its design is CMOS‑compatible so devices can be fabricated in conventional foundries without specialized process nodes. Initial commercial focus is on on‑device audio tasks such as speech recognition, translation and hearing‑aid signal processing, plus sensor processing for smart sensors, smart cities and smart agriculture. Neuronova spun out of PoliHub (Politecnico Milano’s incubator), where the founding team won a pitch competition and secured an initial €30,000 grant. The company also emphasizes that nearly all chip design and processing work is carried out in Italy to support local semiconductor capabilities and high‑volume production plans.
