WuXi NextCODE builds a global standard platform for genomic data, offering capabilities across study design, sequencing, secondary analysis, storage, interpretation, scalable analytics and AI/deep learning. The company provides technology for organizing, mining and sharing genome sequence data to serve population genomics, precision medicine, diagnostics and wellness initiatives. It has offices in Shanghai; Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Dublin. WuXi NextCODE recently acquired Genomics Medicine Ireland (GMI), which now serves as its Irish subsidiary and European business headquarters. The company intends to use new funding to expand operations at GMI and to accelerate a program to enroll and sequence the entire genomes of roughly 400,000 people across Ireland. Led by CEO Rob Brainin, the company positions itself as an integrated partner for enterprises using the genome to improve health. WuXi NextCODE operates a cloud-based genomics database used to visualize and analyze whole exomes for researchers worldwide. The company offers B2B products for research and several B2C consumer genetic-test products available in China. Founded in 2013 as a spinoff of deCODE genetics, it was acquired by WuXi AppTec in 2015 and merged with WuXi's Cambridge sequencing lab to form the current entity. WXNC now operates as a standalone subsidiary with offices in Cambridge, Shanghai and Reykjavik. The company is on track to have more than 2 million genomes in its database by 2020 and intends to make that repository the "gold standard" of genome sequence data. It plans to use new funding to build out the infrastructure needed to scale the database. To date WXNC has raised a total of $270 million, including the newly announced Series B. NextCODE Health develops a platform that enables accelerated diagnosis of genetic diseases through the use of sequence data. The company holds a five-year exclusive license from deCODE genetics for sequence-based clinical diagnostic applications, including IT infrastructure and data analysis capabilities. Led by CEO Hannes Smarason and president and chief scientific officer Jeff Gulcher, NextCODE is integrating its genomics services into clinical settings. It intends to use the funds from its Series A to scale that integration and expand clinical use. NextCODE is already generating revenue through service agreements with multiple clinical centers, including Queensland University, Boston Children’s Hospital, Newcastle University and Saitama University. The company is based in Cambridge, MA and is working with physicians and geneticists to accelerate identification of causative genes and mutations.
