Nilas (formerly Inbox) builds developer APIs and a Sync Engine for email, contacts and calendar apps that integrate with legacy systems. The platform is free to get started and the Nilas Sync Engine is compatible with Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, iCloud and others. Founded in 2013 by Michael Grinich and Christine Spang, the company is focused on enabling developers to build modern client apps on top of existing mail systems. The company raised funding to expand its developer platform and to build new products. Nilas plans to use the proceeds to hire engineers and designers to continue product and platform development. Joe Lonsdale of Formation 8 joined Nilas’ board in conjunction with the financing.
