Overview

Ninebot is a Beijing-based company providing mobile robotics and intelligent short-distance electric transportation solutions. It operates as the Segway & Ninebot Group after acquiring Segway Inc. in March 2015 and focuses on personal transportation and Segway Robotics. Led by founder and CEO Lufeng Gao, the company launched Segway Loomo, a general-purpose robotic service platform, earlier this year. In October 2017 Ninebot raised the equivalent of $100M in Series C financing to support its expansion. The company intends to use the funds to further enhance deployment of its business around the world. Ninebot is a Beijing-based maker of short-distance personal transportation equipment. The company focuses on R&D, production, sales and services of intelligent transport devices including unicycles, two-wheel self-balancing vehicles and other smart personal-transportation robotics products. In April 2015 Ninebot acquired Segway. Post-acquisition the company serves customers in more than 100 countries and holds over 60% of the global market share in personal transporters. Ninebot reports more than 400 core patents, representing over 90% of worldwide patents in the space. The company received a venture capital investment from Intel Capital (amount undisclosed). Ninebot is a Beijing-based company operating in the personal transportation mobility device sector. It announced the acquisition of Segway, which will become a wholly owned subsidiary while both brands remain separate. Ninebot says its products are independently developed and manufactured in China and that it independently owns its intellectual property, offering comparable quality at lower prices than imported brands. Founder and CEO Gao Lufeng said the company will apply technologies including electric driving, mobile internet, and man-machine interaction to future products and expand its product roster. Ninebot raised $80 million in funding from investors including Xiaomi, Sequoia Capital, and the Shunwei Foundation. The company had been named in a prior trade complaint by Segway alleging patent infringement, but the two companies appear to have put that dispute behind them.
