OBMedical is developing LaborView, a wireless external electronic maternal-fetal monitoring sensor system intended as an alternative to traditional external sensors. Clinical performance trials at University of Florida Health/Shands and Winnie Palmer Hospital produced highly satisfactory results. The company plans to use the new funding to complete safety, mechanical, and EMC testing, summative usability testing, and industrial design. Proceeds will support a 510(k) clearance filing, which was scheduled for the third quarter of 2014. Upon FDA clearance, LaborView is expected to work with all major brands of monitors in the U.S. and to offer more reliable, more comfortable, and more cost-effective obstetric monitoring with greater patient satisfaction. LaborView is a Class II, non-significant risk device currently in performance clinical trials. OBMedical plans to complete those trials and file for 510(k) clearance, with design-for-manufacturing and industrial design work forthcoming.
