Off-Grid Solutions is a Haarlem, the Netherlands-based developer of solar energy products focused on affordable lighting and phone charging for people without electricity. The company develops the WakaWaka highly efficient solar LED light, which it says is environmentally friendly and provides 8 hours of bright light, 16 hours of reading light or 80 hours of safety light, with a battery operational up to three years. Co-founded by Maurits Groen, Camille van Gestel and Kim van der Leeuw, Off-Grid Solutions intends to develop, engineer, manufacture and market product concepts for people who lack access to electricity or face regular blackouts. The company raised €75k through the equity crowdfunding platform Symbid from 320 investors to support development and marketing of the WakaWaka light. It plans to market the product in over 40 developing countries, targeting the roughly 1.5 billion people worldwide living without electricity.
