Overview

Olist connects small brick-and-mortar merchants to larger online marketplaces through a SaaS licensing model, enabling merchants to increase reach and sales. The company reported more than 45,000 shopkeepers and retailers as clients and said it tripled its size in 2021. Over the past year Olist completed four acquisitions: social commerce startup Clickspace, logistics company PAX, and commerce-tool companies VNDA and Tiny ERP. Olist has begun operations in Mexico and plans to expand across Latin America next year. The company intends to use new capital to open a fulfillment operation early next year and to expand financial services for merchants, including credit lines, risk management, accelerated sales and internal credit models. Olist operates a SaaS platform that helps small brick-and-mortar merchants sell through major marketplaces by managing product listings, logistics and payments via its flagship Olist Store. The company also offers Olist Shops, a quick-storefront product that has attracted more than 200,000 users in 180 countries since launch. Olist says its platform supports “all the stages of an e-commerce operation” and reported GMV in the first half of the year up 2.5x versus the prior year. The startup has grown merchant presence from more than 7,000 customers in 2019 to about 25,000 merchants today and says revenue doubled in 2020 and tripled in Q1 2021 year-over-year. Olist previously used a drop-shipping, capital-light model and has expanded into logistics via acquisitions, and it plans further technology investment, product development, mergers and acquisitions, and internationalization. Olist is a comprehensive commerce platform that provides catalog services, market intelligence and insights, operational control tools, customer support, logistics, product exposure and multichannel sales. The company will use the new investment to accelerate expansion through continued investment in its core business, strategic mergers and acquisitions, and development of its ecosystem of solutions. It also plans to build new products to generate additional visibility and opportunities for merchants, brands and large retailers. Olist reported record business growth in the first half of the year, including increases in its customer base and integration of products for new marketplaces. The article notes the broader Brazilian e-commerce market reached R$38.8 billion in the first half of 2020, and Olist says it aims to continue bringing tens of thousands of stores online. The company announced the acquisition of Clickspace and will integrate that startup's founder and development team to expand its marketplace and social-commerce capabilities.
