Onato is a B2B online platform for fresh produce that links suppliers and buyers across India, aiming to enable price transparency, better fulfillment, and timelier payments. The platform vets all users who apply and states that user data is 100% safe and never shared with third parties. Launched in February this year by Vedant Katiyar and Ashish Jindal, the company leverages on-ground data and technology to reduce volatility, wastage, and income instability in the agri supply chain. The founders say India’s fresh fruit and vegetable industry is worth over $100 billion per annum and is plagued by unreliable payments, arbitrary pricing, and lack of access to financing. Onato will use the $2.2M seed funding to grow its team and scale up operations, expanding buy-and-sell opportunities and facilitating more timely payments. Investors highlighted the startup’s digital intervention and robust fulfillment process as means to ease credit burdens and improve value distribution across the chain.
