oneDrum launched the beta of a free, real-time collaboration platform for Microsoft Office users. The product adds secure, synchronized file sharing, version management, multi-author document creation and editing, plus communication and coordination tools on top of existing Office applications. Any version of Microsoft Office is compatible; local copies are stored for offline edits and the platform includes instant messaging and edit-tracking. TechCrunch readers were offered an invite code to try the beta. Towards the end of last year oneDrum secured £1 million in funding—£900,000 from Amadeus Capital Partners and £100,000 in grants from the UK Technology Strategy Board (creative industries fund) and Scottish Enterprise. The company is based primarily in Scotland and is led by CEO Jasper Westaway and CTO John Boyle.
