Overview

Oso Semiconductor builds patent-pending, ultra-low-loss beamforming chipsets based on its Combiner-First™ architecture for phased array antennas operating at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. The company says its design can deliver up to 4x improvement in efficiency versus existing electrically steerable antenna (ESA) chipsets by reducing losses and simplifying phase shifting and combining. The technology and new algorithmic approaches were inspired by founder Dr. Matthew Anderson’s work at UC Berkeley and enable fewer amplifiers and a simplified chip design. Oso plans to use its recent funding to build pre-production beamforming chipsets and evaluation systems for initial customers in the SATCOM market. It intends to leverage those hardware platforms to secure additional customer commitments across SATCOM, 5G and radar applications. The firm positions its microchips as providing significant power and cost savings for antennas, particularly above 6 GHz.
