Pangea.app operates a marketplace linking remote college freelancers with businesses that need piece-work such as graphic design. The company charges a 15% cut of transaction volume and also sells a SaaS fee to companies for access to top-vetted student workers. To date it has seen five-figure contract volume flow through the platform and reports 250 schools with students on the platform, including 60 added in the prior three weeks. The startup plans development-focused hires in 2020, including a UI/UX designer and engineering talent, and intends to staff up via its own platform over the summer to accelerate product work. Pangea.app says the new capital gives it enough runway to operate for a year without generating revenue and it is targeting break-even profitability before expanding the next part of its business. The company is based in Providence, Rhode Island, which it says helps reduce operating costs compared with larger startup hubs.
