Overview
Paques Biomaterials develops biodegradable PHA polymers (branded Caleyda) using bacteria fed with organic residual flows. Caleyda is described as 100% biodegradable in natural environments and designed to eliminate microplastics across multiple applications. The company has developed the technology for over 10 years, holds patented technology, and advanced through laboratory and pilot testing to a 2022 demo installation in Dordrecht. In 2023 it collaborated with Kolon Industries, Looop, and Senbis Polymer Innovations to refine its process. Paques recently secured €14M in fresh funding to scale its operations. The capital will fund construction of a Caleyda Extraction Facility in Emmen and support plans for a large-scale extraction plant targeting an annual output of 6 million kg of PHA.
