Petal Surgical
1470 Industrial Way, Redwood City, CA, 94063, United States
Overview
Petal Surgical is developing an incisionless surgery platform that uses Millisecond Pulse Histotripsy — a form of acoustic liquefaction — integrated with robotics, imaging and AI-driven controls to precisely treat tissue. The platform creates vapor-filled cavities one at a time to enable connected treatment regions and break down tougher tissues without cutting. The company says its approach aims to eliminate cuts, pain, trauma and other typical surgical risks and to leverage the body's natural healing. Petal plans to use recent financing to accelerate R&D, expand clinical readiness activities and advance toward first-in-human studies. The company was founded by image-guided surgery engineer Prash Chopra alongside neurosurgeon Dr. Bowen Jiang, spine-surgery pioneer Dr. Nicholas Theodore, and Rony Abovitz, a founder of Mako Surgical. Petal has drawn board and investor support from figures such as Dr. Fred Moll and Lip-Bu Tan.
