Overview

Phreesia provides a SaaS patient intake management platform that streamlines registration, offers multiple intake modalities, and supports flexible, secure payment options. The platform connects with patients before, during and after visits and delivers engagement strategies designed to improve the patient experience. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in New York, Phreesia manages intake for over 70 million patients annually and has checked in more than 15% of the U.S. population since its founding. The company positions itself to help health care organizations optimize staffing and enhance clinical care through its suite of intake applications. Recent investment activity is intended to support growth, scaling, and efforts to improve patient care and engagement. Phreesia provides healthcare organizations with a point-of-service solution that includes electronic payment applications, clinical and administrative data collection, and consent form management. The platform is designed to automate front-office workflow and drive bottom-line results for its customers. Led by CEO Chaim Indig, the company serves healthcare providers seeking to streamline patient intake and payment processes. Phreesia is based in New York City. The company recently closed a $30M funding round to support its growth. It intends to use the proceeds to accelerate product development and broaden its customer base around the country. Phreesia provides a technology platform that automates the patient check-in process in physician offices and care centers across the U.S. Its core product is wireless touchscreen pads used by patients to verify and update demographic and insurance information and to provide clinical information. The information collected integrates into existing practice management and electronic health record systems. In May 2010 the company closed a $16M Series D financing led by Ascension Health Ventures, with participation from existing investors BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners, Sandbox Industries, Polaris Venture Partners, HLM Venture Partners and Long River Ventures. Victor Kats of Ascension Health Ventures will join Phreesia's board of directors as part of the financing. According to CEO and co-founder Chaim Indig, the investment will enable the company to expand its presence in the healthcare market. Phreesia builds wireless touchscreen tablets with swipe-card technology to replace paper intake clipboards and send patient information to physicians’ record software (and other doctors who use Phreesia). The company charges no hardware fee in many cases, subsidizing tablets by showing patients sponsored “educational material.” Phreesia says thousands of doctors already use its product and plans to use the new funding to enlist more U.S. physicians. The tablets are promoted as cutting time to process payments, insurance and patient histories and won honors at DEMO in fall 2007. Phreesia benefits from limited direct competition and from the Obama administration’s push for digital medical records and broader health IT adoption. The company is based in New York and has raised a total of $25 million to date.
