PipeDreams

1101 Marina Village Parkway Suite 201, Alameda, CA, 94501, United States

Overview

PipeDreams acquires mom-and-pop HVAC and plumbing companies and scales them with its software for scheduling and marketing. The company allows owners to retire while keeping employees, names, and brands, and has purchased nine companies so far, operating in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tucson and Denver. PipeDreams raised a $25.5 million Series A led by Canvas Ventures and Plural, with additional funds from Tony Xu and Thomas Layton, and has a $15 million debt facility used to buy businesses. It plans to use the equity proceeds to improve its software and expects future rounds to include more debt than equity. The strategy is a roll-up variant that differs from private equity by not being tied to strict lifecycle timelines for exits. PipeDreams launched an apprentice program in Q4 to train new technicians and has had five students so far. Founder Dan Laufer, previously head of growth and product marketing at Nextdoor, anticipates expanding into other trades such as electricians.
