Overview
PlanQC is a quantum computing service provider that has developed a breakthrough approach to storing and processing quantum information. Its quantum computers use single atoms as naturally reliable qubits and demonstrate the potential of highly scalable qubit arrays. Those qubits can be manipulated with controlled laser pulses at very high precision. PlanQC announced it had raised €50 million in a Series A financing. The round was led by European family office CATRON Holding and DeepTech & Climate Fonds (DTCF). Bayern Kapital, the Max-Planck Foundation and private investors including UVC and Speedinvest also participated. planqc develops quantum computers that store information in individual atoms held in optical lattices and processed by precisely timed laser pulses. The company aims to build room-temperature, highly scalable systems it says can scale to thousands of qubits and deliver industry-relevant quantum advantage. planqc was founded in April 2022 by researchers from the Max‑Planck‑Institute of Quantum Optics and Ludwig‑Maximilians‑University Munich and is the first startup to emerge from the Munich Quantum Valley. Its founding team combines decades of international research in neutral-atom quantum technologies at institutions including Harvard, Oxford, UC Berkeley, University of Innsbruck, CQT Singapore, and MPQ. The startup reports routinely trapping and controlling more than 2,000 atoms in optical lattice simulators at MPQ. It has raised €4.6M to fund development of its scalable, room-temperature quantum computers.
