Overview

PlaySight Interactive is a Cresskill, N.J.–based global sports technology company that provides a smart technology platform for sports. Its platform is utilized in over 20 countries across 25 sports, including tennis, basketball, soccer, football and volleyball. Customers and partners include the Golden State Warriors, the North Carolina Tar Heels, over 50 NCAA tennis programs, the United States Tennis Association, and numerous clubs, academies, federations and schools. Led by CEO Chen Shachar, the company offers SmartTracker technology and other platform capabilities and plans a roll-out of SmartTracker for soccer and hockey. PlaySight intends to use the funds to grow across a variety of sports and to accelerate growth in basketball and multisport schools and academies. The company extended its Series C financing to $21M. PlaySight offers a cloud-based on-field multi-angle video and proprietary analytics platform branded as SmartCourt that transforms sports fields, courts and gyms into smart, connected spaces. The company serves athletes at all levels and powers federations, academies, clubs and over 40 NCAA tennis programs, as well as the USTA’s National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida. PlaySight is also working with top teams across other sports, including the 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. Founded in 2013 and led by CEO Chen Shachar, the company is based in New Jersey. PlaySight received a strategic investment that it will use to expand and roll out its SmartCourt technology into new sports verticals. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. PlaySight Interactive develops the SmartCourt, an affordable, cloud-based tennis analytics and video-replay system that uses five HD cameras to automatically tag events and provide real-time and post-session statistics. The SmartCourt delivers line-calling, professional match analytics, video replay and social sharing without court-side operators or wearable sensors. It captures 3D tactical data including ball height over the net, shot speed and shot depth, and tracks player distance and calories burned. The system is operated via a courtside kiosk and allows rapid sharing of video and data with coaches and remote users. PlaySight has installed 35 SmartCourts globally, including 19 in the United States, and its technology is approved by the International Tennis Federation for amateur tournaments. The company has deployments at venues such as Roland Garros, Queens Club, Stefan Edberg’s academy and others, recently installed its first collegiate court at the University of Georgia, and plans a wider roll-out and expansion into other sports.
