Murmur, founded by Aaron Dignan, is developing a collaborative platform to make company decisions more open, feedback-driven and asynchronous; it remains in private beta after launching a closed beta in 2021. The product functions as a smarter Google Doc for proposals and work agreements, with features for approvals, deadlines and decision-making frameworks. Murmur is also building an AI writer to generate proposals quickly and an opt-in Slack integration (alpha) that can prompt users to create proposals from channel conversations. The company emphasizes transparency and public agreements while trying to find the right go-to-market entry across DAOs, universities, big tech and startups. Its user base spans non-tech organizations as well: among Murmur’s top customers are Adidas, Bitly and the Philippine Space Agency, and under a quarter of its 100 most active accounts are tech companies. The team is focused on balancing ease of use with inclusion and transparency in remote-first work environments. Murmur provides a web platform for creating, customizing and iterating “work agreements” — policies that define how teams operate, from parental leave to hiring and OKRs. The product includes features to propose, vote on, edit and gather feedback during the agreement-creation process. Today the platform lets anyone view listed public agreements for free, while charging to create and customize agreements; the team is testing pricing and plans a free trial followed by a per-seat monthly fee of roughly $12–$15. Murmur is still in private beta and plans a public launch in early summer 2021. The company intends to onboard the agreements of dozens of companies in the coming months and targets startups that already work in public, such as Buffer, Basecamp, Lattice and Blinkist, with potential enterprise customers further out. Founder Aaron Dignan positions Murmur as a best-practices-as-a-service play and says the product aims to do for working practices what GitHub did for code.
