Poa Internet

Ginge Road 18, Lavington, Nairobi, Nairobi Area, 00100, Kenya

Overview

Poa Internet builds and operates low-cost, high-speed broadband networks aimed at underserved and low-income areas in Kenya. The company partners with Nokia for fibre technology, which provides the backbone for its broadband expansion. Poa has been recognized for an innovative approach to bringing reliable connectivity where it has traditionally been lacking. With new financing from Finnfund, Poa plans to scale its operations and extend its affordable internet service to more Kenyan communities. The company emphasizes digital inclusion to enable access to education, healthcare, financial services, and economic opportunities. Management says the expansion will deepen Poa’s impact and help bridge the digital divide for millions of Kenyans. Poa Internet is a Kenyan ISP that builds fiber and street Wi‑Fi networks serving low- and middle-income neighborhoods and public areas. The company offers unlimited-data monthly plans at about $13 — roughly half the local market rate — and public hotspots charging ~$0.18 for 1 GB. Its service is designed for video-capable speeds (around 4 Mbps) to enable streaming and video calls while keeping per-user prices low. Poa currently serves more than 12,000 homes and small businesses in Nairobi and tens of thousands more users via street Wi‑Fi connections. It targets markets that larger providers often skip and positions itself on affordability and limitless data to deliver a “meaningful internet experience.” The company plans to expand its reach across Kenya first and then progressively into other African countries using the new capital.
