Overview

PRENAV develops automated commercial drones guided by computer vision that can safely operate in complicated or GPS‑denied environments with high precision and repeatability. The company’s initial application is inspection of infrastructure such as cell phone towers, wind turbines, buildings and rooftops, flare stacks, and oil tankers. Its system consists of a commercial drone, a ground-based guidance robot, and software to plan missions and analyze data to build accurate 3D reconstructions of industrial assets. PRENAV is based in San Carlos, California. The company raised $6.5 million in seed financing and will use the funding to accelerate product development, marketing, and sales of its commercial drone system. PRENAV expects to release the commercial system in 2017 and has demonstrated its precision flying capabilities in award-winning video work. Prenav develops automated systems that use small aerial robots to capture data and build detailed 3D reconstructions of vertical infrastructure. Its systems can autonomously navigate close to cell towers, wind turbines and other tall structures to capture imagery for inspection. Initial focus is imaging cell towers, wind turbines and other tall structures to inspect nuts, bolts, serial numbers, cabling and damaged areas and to measure key components. Prenav raised $1.2M in seed funding and intends to use the proceeds to continue developing its system. A product launch was slated for 2016. Prenav was founded in October 2013 by Nathan Schuett and Asa Hammond and is based in San Carlos, California.
