ul. Tylna 3a, Lodz, Lodzkie, 90-364, Poland
Overview
Proteon Pharmaceuticals develops AI-powered combinations of bacteriophages to protect livestock and aquaculture from bacterial diseases as alternatives to antibiotics. Its initial bacteriophage cocktails target salmonella and avian pathogenic E. coli in poultry, and Pseudomonas and Aeromonas infections in fish. Products are registered and commercially available in selected markets in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Upcoming pipeline targets include mastitis in dairy cows and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) in shrimp. The Warsaw-based company said the €21 million ($24.6 million) raised will be used to accelerate commercialization and global rollout of its animal health products. Proteon aims to reduce antibiotic use in animal agriculture and slow antimicrobial resistance, and it has an existing partnership with Nutreco’s aquaculture business Skretting.
