Overview
Proxima emerged from stealth to announce its inaugural game, Lumari, a social sandbox adventure that mixes elements of Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Minecraft. Lumari will let players visit each other, chat, build together, collect pet-like creatures, customize characters and creatures, build homes and habitats, grow gardens and explore an expansive world. The team is small (five industry veterans) and led by founder Ran Mo, a former lead product manager at Electronic Arts who worked on The Sims. The game includes combat elements and a trailer teases hostile purple beings across a fractured world. The studio raised funding to support development and is using the majority of the $1.6M pre-seed to build the game, which is still in early stages. A community playtest runs June 15–July 15 (single-player on Windows), and the full launch is not expected for two years or longer.
