QuestDB

10 York Road, London, SE1 7ND, United Kingdom

Overview

QuestDB builds a high-performance open-source time-series database designed for speed and reduced infrastructure costs. The company offers an enterprise version that customers can install and manage on their cloud of choice and is developing a hosted version expected by year-end. QuestDB has focused on community growth—its Slack community has more than 900 developers and over 70 code contributors—and the founders run a YC-alumni open-source group with about 100 members. Commercial features emphasize deployment flexibility and easier operation at scale; the company declined to disclose customer counts. QuestDB was part of Y Combinator’s summer 2020 cohort. The startup currently has 15 employees and plans to double headcount in the next six months if growth continues. QuestDB builds an open source time series database optimized for speed and handling very large datasets. The project began in 2013 when CTO Vlad Ilyushchenko created the database while building trading systems and later became a startup after he teamed with Nicolas Hourcard (CEO) and Tancrede Collard (CPO). The company emphasizes high performance—its demo queries on 1.6 billion rows return mostly sub-second results. QuestDB uses an open source distribution to drive bottom-up developer adoption and to attract community contributions. It plans to continue improving the open source product while developing a managed cloud offering for enterprise customers. The team currently has seven employees distributed across the US, EU and South America and participated in Y Combinator's summer 2020 cohort.
