Overview
Quizlet offers an online platform for students to create, share and collaborate on virtual flashcards and study guides, with features like Quizlet Learn that use AI to help users study and master topics. The product spans a broad curriculum and supports collaboration via shareable links. Usage surged during the COVID-19 pandemic: students ask over 1 billion questions weekly and more than 400 million study guides have been created. Quizlet reports over 50 million monthly users, more than two-thirds of U.S. high schoolers use it, and at least half of U.S. college students have used the platform. It is used in 130 countries across 19 localized languages and has seen 200%–400% new user growth in top international markets. Quizlet said revenue is growing 100% year-over-year but declined to comment on profitability. Quizlet operates a user-generated learning platform where students and teachers find or create study content and practice via activities and games. The company hosts more than 200 million user-created study sets and offers a mix of free and paid subscriptions for students and teachers that enable further customization. Last year it launched Quizlet Learn and Quizlet Diagrams, which run on a machine-learning–powered Learning Assistant Platform that processes data from billions of anonymous study sessions. Quizlet combines that data with proven techniques from cognitive science to improve learning outcomes. The company intends to use new capital to accelerate its artificial intelligence capabilities, expand its data science team and grow its international presence. Founded in 2005, Quizlet is led by CEO Matthew Glotzbach. Quizlet is an education‑technology company best known for its web and mobile study app that lets users input their own study materials and convert them into games and flashcards. The company released Quizlet Live, a classroom‑focused, team-based matching game designed for face-to-face group play and quick team setup via pin codes. Quizlet hosts a large library—teachers can use any of 125 million existing study sets—and has recorded over 2 billion study sessions, roughly 1 billion of which occurred in the past year. Founded in 2005, Quizlet resisted taking venture capital until late 2015 when its founder and CTO decided outside funding could help scale the business internationally. The company is translating its first mobile apps into multiple languages now, and while Quizlet Live is available in English today, the company hasn’t ruled out developing paid apps or services for schools and districts in the future. Its recent product launch and international plans accompany a newly completed institutional fundraise, signaling a shift toward more rapid scaling.
