Overview
Ra Pharmaceuticals combines insights into innate immunity with macrocycle technology to develop peptide-like therapeutics from its proprietary Extreme Diversity™ platform. Its lead molecule, RA101495, is a next-generation complement C5 inhibitor expected to enter Phase 1 clinical studies for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) in late 2015 and is described as a self-administered, subcutaneous product. Preclinical data demonstrated near complete inhibition of hemolysis in non-human primates. The company plans to use the proceeds of its recently completed financing to generate human proof-of-concept data for RA101495 across multiple indications and to advance multiple product candidates derived from the Extreme Diversity platform. Ra also intends to develop a broader pipeline targeting additional diseases of the complement system. The company additionally maintains a multi-target collaboration with a Merck subsidiary (MSD outside the U.S. and Canada), which has been extended.
