Overview

Raccoon.World offers Raccoon.Recovery, a digital platform that helps physiotherapy professionals examine patient condition, build gamified exercise courses, and monitor recovery progress for musculoskeletal disorders and stroke rehabilitation. The company raised €660K from the Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) program. The grant funding will be used for further R&D, scientific research, certification of a renewed product, and to pursue potential partners. Product development plans include scaling the solution from a hand-and-arm focus to a full-body product. Raccoon.World also intends to run clinical trials to expand automation of therapists’ everyday routines, pursue IP protection, and obtain MDR certification as a medical device. The FTI grant programme is expected to last approximately two years and support these activities. Raccoon is a digital rehabilitation platform headquartered in Berlin with Ukrainian roots that enables remote recovery for patients after injuries and neurological diseases. The cloud-based solution lets therapists connect via an in-built video call tool while patients perform prescribed exercises wearing company sensors or a smartphone, repeat video lessons, or play therapeutic video games. It supports hybrid care by combining clinic visits with monitored at-home exercises and progress monitoring. The startup positions the product as a replacement for manual examination tests and uncontrolled home rehabilitation. Raccoon plans to use the new funds to increase sales in Germany and Poland, expand across Europe and Asia, develop new product functionalities, and conduct additional clinical trials. This past summer the company participated in the first batch of the 500 Startups acceleration program in Tbilisi, Georgia. Raccoon.world develops Raccoon.Recovery, an interactive therapy and analysis tool for hand rehabilitation that includes a controller, diagnostic and analysis software enabled by machine learning/AI, and a smartphone app for iOS and Android. The solution targets patients, doctors and hospitals, aiming to restore hand function after trauma or stroke and enable gaming for people with cerebral palsy or quadriplegia. The product is at beta stage with a ready controller prototype and a software MVP; pilot projects run in three clinics and one rehabilitation center in Ukraine and two rehabilitation centers in the USA. The company is also designing Raccoon.Clip, a universal controller for mobile VR and video games, and Raccoon.Glove, a multifunctional device for VR and remote interaction. The team consists of 12 people and the company operates an R&D center in Kyiv. Financially, Raccoon.world has raised $280,000 to date and is seeking €430,000 to finish development by mid 2019; it also plans to apply for Horizon 2020 stage two for €500,000–€2.5M.
