Reefy
Paardenmarkt 1, Delft, Zuid-Holland, 2611 PA, The Netherlands
Overview
Reefy creates modular man-made reefs from 3x1x1 metre ecologically sustainable concrete blocks that act as wave breakers and habitats, attracting diverse fauna. Founded in 2019 by Jaime Ascencio and Leon Haines and based in Delft, the company says its reefs grow with the sea, improving breakwater capacity over time and allowing expansion as sea levels rise. Reefy positions its solution as the first to successfully combine dependable hydraulic engineering with environmental preservation. The startup currently has a four-person team and plans to grow to six to carry out pilot projects in the Netherlands and at a beach resort in Mexico. On November 14 it raised €350K from UNIIQ and says it will use the funds to execute the first pilots and continue product development. UNIIQ is a €28.8M investment fund established in 2016 by TU Delft, Erasmus MC, Leiden University, and InnovationQuarter to help entrepreneurs in South Holland bring innovations to market.
