Founded in 2020 as a spin-off from TNO’s Biorizon program, Bergen-op-Zoom-based Relement develops and markets bio-aromatics made from agricultural residues. Its flagship molecule, Bio MPA (biobased 3-methylphthalic anhydride), lowers the CO₂ footprint and boosts performance in alkyd paint formulations. The company’s process replaces fossil-derived aromatics with renewable feedstocks, enabling more sustainable coatings, plastics and agro-chemicals. In 2024 Relement partnered with Weylchem-Allessa to scale industrial production and showcased BIOmotion70, a paint containing 70 % sustainable ingredients. Proceeds from its latest financing will fund commercial scale-up and market launch of Bio MPA together with manufacturing partners.
