Overview
Roboat is an Amsterdam-based company spun out of MIT and the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS) that develops autonomous boating technology. Its AI software provides situational awareness, decision support, obstacle identification and avoidance, autonomous sailing, and automated docking and mooring. The system can be integrated into new vessels or retrofitted into commercial ships used for passenger transport, goods delivery, and waste collection. Roboat is collaborating with multiple clients across the Netherlands and Europe and adapts deployments to local regulations, either supporting skippers or taking full control of navigation. Amsterdam’s public transport company GVB uses Roboat for situational awareness on the GVB IJveer. The company recently raised €550,000 from LUMO Labs and SHIFT Invest.
