Rugged Robotics develops a self-contained robot that prints building layouts on construction-site floors to improve accuracy for contractors. The Houston-based startup positions its machine as a ‘‘layout Roomba’’ that bridges the digital and physical jobsite. The company says its solution requires minimal setup and can allow multiple robots to operate simultaneously. Rugged is working toward greater autonomy with the goal of enabling unmanned, overnight work. The startup has hired industry talent such as Auris Health’s Mason Markee and plans to use new funding to accelerate deployments and expand hiring. Financially, Rugged closed a $9.4M Series A and has raised roughly $12M in total (including a prior $2.5M round in 2019).
