Overview
Runner operates a marketplace that matches startups with part-time, operations-focused professionals (called “runners”), each employed by Runner under W-2 classification. The platform launched with an explicit focus on operations roles and has around 200 runners on the platform today. Its business model takes a 25% cut of a runner’s hourly rate and charges a 10% recruitment fee if a customer hires a runner full-time. Before a waitlist model, Runner secured roughly 120 pilot customers at a $500,000 run rate; its app was set to launch on March 15, 2022. Founder Arlan Hamilton says the company aims to have 1,000+ runners by year-end averaging $40,000 each, a projection she equates to becoming a “half a billion dollar company.” Many current Runner executives first joined the platform as runners, and the company does not position itself as a DEI recruitment firm despite its leadership coming from historically overlooked backgrounds.
